In what we are hoping becomes a trend with artists planning to release new music, Live From Space Studios was granted exclusive, behind the scenes access to a song being released this Friday by the music duo “NTL”. This is only the second single released by the exciting and relatively new partnership composed of Likewise and Tobe Williams. Their debut track “Deep Youth”, was released earlier this year in July; already having accumulated over 325,000 plays on Spotify since then, it’s safe to say that this new track is very anticipated. Leading up to the song’s release, we met up with Likewise and Tobe to find out more about how it was made.

We made a song together before we met in person

Tobe:  We had “Wavewarp” done and a couple other tracks already started before we met.  I’m originally from San Diego, but I was in DC at the time I dm’d him (Likewise), so we would just be on calls sending ideas over to each other.

How did this latest track come together?

Tobe: Originally when I sent it to him, I had a version that had been done for about 3 months that I hadn’t changed in a while. It was an idea that I started but I couldn’t really finish it, there was a lot of missing pieces. I knew Diego had more of a background in house music, so I sent it over to him and asked him what he thought about it for a NeverTheLess release. He fixed it up and mixed & mastered it to pretty much turn it into the song it is now. It was cool how it was a collaboration of my style with his to make this track possible.

When Tobe sent over the original version of the track, did you pretty much hear it and immediately know what had to go where?

Likewise: Tobe comes more from a background of bass music, a lot more harder hitting. So when he sent it to me, I basically heard the whole song but in a house perspective; I knew it could do really well. I didn’t do any crazy changes, the soul of the song was already there when Tobe sent it. It was mainly changing it to sound more house-ey. From there it wasn’t that long until we finalized the song. The one thing with this song, we kept going back and forth with the second drop. The second drop was something that kept us from releasing the song for a while.

Likewise: The long term goal is create a huge artist under NTL. I think it gives us an ability to release music we wanna release but can’t under our personal artists. So it’s sweet that we have an alter ego.
